I have a question about putting a cage in my 85 cutlass. I am going to cut the floorpans with a plasma cutter to the frame to weld the cage in then cut the pieces of the floor to fit around the bars to be welded in place. My question was about the body mounts. Will the points where the roll cage is welded to the frame replace the body mounts or do i need to buy solid body mounts to compliment the cage?

On my cage, none of the bars of the cage end up coming through on a body mount. I didn't replace my body mounts ( wish I did ), but I did take 2 x 3 tubing and fit in between the floor and frame and welded it solid, to replace the body mounts

On my car I had already replaced all my mounts with polyurethane and I installed my roll bar later and it is welded to the frame at 6 points and another 4 points are welded to floor plates.
Basically there is no way that a 10 point cage will replace all your body mounts so I would replace the body mounts with solid ones before adding your cage.
Once your cage is welded to your frame getting body mounts in or out would be nearly if not impossible.

Ok thanks. I figured the body mounts would have to be replaced first if they needed replaced at all. I will get some aluminum mounts and place them as needed before the cage is in.

I'm now considering going with an 8 point roll bar since i probably won't be going quicker than 10.00 for a while, at least until after I do a stroker in the ly6 after a season or two on the stock bottom end. When that time comes I can add the rest to make it a 10 point. Until then it would be just extra weight. I couldnt see it being considerably stiffer than the 8 since they have the same mounting points.
