I am replacing the rear brake lines on my 86 442. I found a set of OEM lines to fit a 1981. I think they are the same from 81 to 1988 am I correct or is there a difference between the years with the brake lines. Thanks

About all repops list the lines as '78-'80 & '81-'88 but I haven't seen much differences between the years. OE or repop, they may still need some tweeking regardless.

If I remember correct from when I worked for a Lancaster NY brake line manufacturer the 7.5 and 8.5 rear axles in G Bodies had the same rear axle lines. 78-88 year span.

OEM lines? What's that mean? As in used originals or NOS? GM brake lines (and the metal fuel lines along the frame) come in a 25' roll and you have to straighten them out and add your own bends and fittings. The only pre-bent lines from GM ready to bolt on is the lines from the master cylinder to the combination valve, and for the fuel line, the pump to carb line. The factories were the only place they used pre-bent lines everywhere during component assembly. Would be nice, though.

Parts information usually states a "Note 1" with a blurb something like "Tubing in 25 foot rolls. Cut, form, flare and buildup with appropriate standard fittings."

I used some pre made sections from Inline Tube which were satisfactory , other areas I bent & flared my own lines using NiCop (Nickel Copper) lines as they can be bent easily by hand & are a breeze to flare using my Eastwood flaring tool

I think the Closest to original manufacture is from Inline Tube they have SS lines in stock and they would make the steel if I desire. OEM I Meant lines with the spring stuff wrapped around the line in the appropriate areas

You used to be able to get that "spring stuff" separately from GM. Just have to make sure to put it on before bending and installing that second flare. 🙂

It's called an armor shield, of all things. They actually sold the front pieces separate. I just checked my parts stash listing and whattaya know, it's p/n 3793113 for the front line going across the crossmember.
