I have a 1980 Chevy Monte Carlo and the trunk latch that is inside of the trunk broke off the part where the trunk locks to I have some quick steel on it now hoping that will hold it but if it does not can I weld it back on or should I drill holes and put screws in it

Bolts broke or the inside of the trunk lid broke? Could you take a picture of said damage? You can ALWAYS weld metal to metal. It's whether it's the smartest thing to do for the situation would be the question. There may be a different way to fix your issue.

Are you talking about the striker that the latch closes over?

Bolt it or weld it. Screws will eventually pull out.

Don't forget the washers!!!

I agree with turna, drill and bolt, or weld it back in place. That quicksteel is good for a few things, but the first time you slam the trunk closed, it'll pop back off.

My 81 Cutlass latch spot welds broke on the bottom side back in high school. I used a few pop rivets to fix it since I didn't have a welder at the time and both sides of the steel were still there.

If you have a welder I'd do it right but if you don't some steel 3/16 Rivets will hold it.
