I am pretty sure I know that most g body parts are interchangeable. I am lost about dashes. My brother has a mint condition Grand Prix dash with rally gauges. Before i went and picked it up I need to know will it interchange with a Monte or Cutlass?

They have been installed in quite a few Malibu's, and I believe were used in Mexican built Monte Carlo SS's. However, I notice that most people who have used them generally eliminate the stock gauges and go with aftermarket.
I'm sure it can be done with the stock gauges using a GP dash wiring diagram and a Monte Carlo SS diagram.
Does the GP dash still have the original wiring harness?

These pics should give you some inspiration.

It should be a bolt in, but as Longroof said there will be some wiring to sort out.
I have always liked the way the Pontiac dash and console fit together. The console looks like it belongs and was pre-planned, unlike the other G-body designs where the console just looks like an after thought thrown on the floor.

The mexican SS looks sick, and with a 4spd too. 8)

I wasnt wiring the gauges up. Those are gonna be sold but Im putting my own set of gauges in there. I just wanted to make sure it would bolt up. after review of my car it looks like it will. Thanks guys

Jack, nice pics on that Mexi-Monte. I especially like the silver dash bezel. I've never seen one in a GP or anything, only the fake wood grain. Are they common, or maybe I just don't get out enough? Also be sure all the wiring comes with that GP dash, because the harness mounts differently. The Chevy harness connector plugs into the back of the gauge cluster and locks into place. On the Pontiac the harness connectors are mounted solidly in the dash and when the gauge pod AND the speedo/tach pod are installed they insert into the harness connectors and rely on the pod's mounting screws to hold them together tight.http://www.montecarloss.com/images/Mexican84SS10.jpg

Mark,
The Mexican Monte Carlo is pretty cool, isn't it? Not too long ago, someone(on this forum) was parting out a '78-'79 GP and I noticed in the pics that it had an engine turned dash bezel instead of the usual woodgrain finish. I've seen them painted semi-flat black and it didn't look too bad either. One of the members over at Malibu racing actually bought some of the engine turn mylar(on Ebay) and did his Lemans dash. I like the look of it. Kind off reminiscent of the old GTO dash.
When I removed my GP dash in the junkyard several years ago, like a fool I ended up cutting the wiring harness instead of carefully removing and unplugging it. I figured I'd be going with aftermarket gauges anyway...oh well.

Yeah, I think you're good to go. I'm not 100% sure if the duct work is the same...it might be. But if you have all of that from the GP, then you can do a comparison while you have the dash removed.
