Has anyone repaired a gear indicator?

Mine in my 82 Monte Carlo is stuck in the P mode

Define repair. The clip should be attached to the rotating sleeve that contains the gear shift handle.

Sounds like the clip popped off. You may be able to access the part of the sleeve directly under the instrument cluster. You may need to loosen the two nuts to drop the column a little. There is a vent panel under the column with a screw on each side of the column. Remove that first. Find the cable and make sure the clip is still attached. If it’s there, tug towards the passenger side a little so the pointer is about centered under Park or P, then slide the clip over the sleeve like a paper clip. There’s a fang that bites into the plastic and holds it in place. Cycle through the gears with the key on but motor off to make sure everything lines up. Put it all black together.
