no problems here..... This is pretty bad....sounds like the teacher may have too much time on his hands to think about things that dont relate to education. over here in conservativeville, many school systems have expelled kids for having piercings in places other than the ear lobe.... so idiocy goes both ways.

That's unconstitutional so I hope your district is prepared to get their pants sued off... There's no law anywhere that I know of that says you can't have piercings. Saying they can't have piercings is a violation of civil rights and freedom of expression.

Of course the school can say that you're not allowed to have any body piercings... Belly button, nips, prince albert, etc. showing, but that goes without saying since schools almost universally have a dress code that you can't have exposed midriffs and I certainly hope that it goes without saying that you shouldn't have your nips or dong hanging out in school.

It's considered part of the dress code and has been upheld in several federal courts regarding several school systems around the country. I don't necessarily agree with all dress codes but they are allow broad interpretations by the courts.

Im so glad I grew up in a time when kids could be kids, allowed to express themselves without being criticized for being different. I feel sorry for the kids these days....who are learning that being different is bad for their overall success.

When I came along, schools controlled the length of your hair, how wild the plaid in your shirts could be, etc... I was in the first class that was allowed to wear shorts to school. Some dress codes are overly restrictive, but some things are nothing but distractions and have no place in school where the focus should be education. I'm not qualified to draw the lines and I won't try, but there clearly need to be boundaries.

If kids fail, they fail!....if they cant learn to concentrate in school, they wont be able to do it as they get older. When I was a kid, if you failed, you were held back a year to do it all over again. Today, that rarely happens, so kids are bumped up a grade even though they dont qualify. Why? because we are more concerned about school ratings than the quality of the education provided. Kids these days are not taught the value of commitment to a task, accomplishing a goal, learning how to lose with dignity, etc. Today, they are being taught that its ok to fail, you wont get "left behind" .... Math is math, and if the kid doesnt do his homework, he will fail, and if he fails, he shouldnt be rewarded for it! School is no harder today than it was 40 yrs ago...so why are we making exceptions for failure?

Bill, this is the rare occasion that we totally agree!
