Question...1980 malibu...can't get glove box to open. The key fits and turns knob but it will not open. Don't want to break it. Any ideas? Thanks

Tried a Fonzie knock? Seriously...

Yea I tried the fonzie knock...tried it a few times.
My guess is you got some paper, napkins, etc. closed in the latch not allowing it to open. Can you get a knife blade in to move stuff around?

MalibuJusten, mine did that new! I used a channel lock pliers, put the Big twist on it. And then purchased a new latch-lock. Be careful not to scratch the door like I did. In my case the internal rack (latch-lock) wasn't cast very well. Yours could be worn out or like Andebe said you may have something stuck between the latch & catch. Good luck Ole' Bob.

My 87 Monte Carlo does that if the box is slammed shut or hit hard while closed. Gently shutting it causes no issue. I have not yet figured out why.

My GP's glove box lock cylinder it totally fubared. The only way I can open the door is with a thin, narrow flat screwdriver. I obviously need to replace the entire cylinder assembly. Where did you get yours?

I haven't had the car but a few weeks. But I will try to "jimmy" it open. Then check latch.
