simple is, as simple does

Looks pretty stout to me for something out of the box and into the car. Depending on the price of course.

The hot ticket used to be to get the HT383 short block, do a cam swap and fork out the $$ for the same fast burn heads as on the motor you just listed.

Are you referring to a 305 TP ( tuned port ) motor ? Like from a 3rd gen ...

Kinda spendy for the power output, IMO.

I was considering an L31 for my wagon, because of being GM, new, and a good value 18 months ago, but GM's pricing on engines has gone nuts.

My boss just had a Blueprint engine put in his Chevelle, came with a dyno sheet at 374HP for $2800. I was skeptical, then I watched a couple youtube videos on Blueprint. I was impressed with the investment in tooling, machinery, and processes to deliver the product they do. Not some nasty grungy "machineshop" operation, they are truly an OE level (in my mind, anyway) operation. I was impressed enough that I am seriously considering going that route on my wagon.

I like the hot rod 383 build. BUT I have build at least ten of the vortec on the cheap. I start with a stock vortec motor out of a truck or sub. Because of the lite ring package there is very little cylinder wear. Keep it a standard bore and order the 383 kit completely balanced. Comes with everything rings rod and mains bearings. Con rods with floating pins and hyp pistons. Dished or flat tops, your choice. Balancer and flexplate to finish out the build. 377 inches with the standard bore (money saved on boring) You will need to get the heads checked and new valve springs installed. Or comp. makes a beehive spring that go right on with the small retainers. You will also need to have the valve seals replaced to add more clearance to the retainer and the guide. Order the comp EX282 or order a regrind off ebay, new rollers if you want or reuse the ones in the block. If you have questions email with a phone number and I will get back to you. I have one under the bench now, flat top no cam all new Eagle kit $1500. You need heads and cam.
