I pulled out my quarter windows today (among other things) and the sealant used behind these things has to be the most atrocious mastic mess I have ever dealt with. The tempature was only low 50's today and overcast and you would best describe this seal as bubble gum on a July sidewalk,is this normally the case? The car has been repainted in its life so I imagine these windows have been out before. What kind of suggestions do you guys have as far as the cleanest remedy for removing this goo? I tried using some goo gone which is a citrus based cleaner and this turned it into a black gooey liquid.

a scraper, lots of rags and a razor to clean the scraper.

3M adhesive remover works best.

I used this product to remove old decals of my boat and it works pretty good, needless to say I to to resort to some razors as well. If you have to resort to razors do yourself a favor and pic up a new box, It will work twice as fast and get more off in one shot.

If you really want to get it all off try some lauqer thinner. Just a thought and cheaper than the 3m option.

Lacquer thinner does work well, but can also wreak havoc on your 25+ year old Lacquer paint job... i.e. taking off the paint if you rub too much...

scraper, mineral spirits, heat gun.

Use the heat gun a scraper to soften it and scrape it off. Once the bulk is gone break out the rags and mineral spirits to remove the residual gunk ( mineral spirits are not flammable so you can use them with the heat gun with less chance of fire ).
