Some of you know my 85 cutlass project i have been working on as a father son project for the past three years, im the son. My dad is getting a new job and has to commute about an hour back and fourth making finding time to work on my car even harder.

And today he asked me to decide what i wanted to do with my car.

I either take over his '87 Grand National which he bought almost a year ago and sell my project.
or
I just wait it out until the end of summer (most likely) for us to complete my project. Has been a father son project for 3 years, was given to us by my grandfather and have all parts to complete the build minus the paint.

Not sure what to do? The GN is such a badass car, and yeah i would be worried about driving it to school and to work everyday so a couple anti theft devices would need to be installed, but the cutlass is my baby.

If i drove the Grand National until my car was ready i would have to pay insurance on it.

What are your thoughts?

Well I own both so here is what i can tell you. While the buick is fun they tend to break easy when altered from factory. They blow headgaskets very easy when pushed hard. You must and i do mean must have a Scanmaster so you can atleast monitor what the car is doing. Also even with stock boost setting driving conditions in the rAin forget it once boost starts coming in car can be a handful. Oh and did I mention you can almost double the cost of any upgrades you might want to do compared to any other car.

Now the olds with a good powerplant there is nothing like the feeling of rawl power. Having both i tend to leave the tr in the garage I like the instant power.

Any way if it where me I would stick with your father and son project the TR is just to damn expensive and tempermental.

yeah the car has been set up for some weekend drag racing which does not make very daily driver friendly especially in bad conditions. Talked with my dad again and told him that i would wait until winter was over to get my license this way i wouldnt have to drive around in the GN with snow. So then when spring rolls around ill pick up work on my car while i drive the GN and hope nothing prevents my cutlass from being finished this summer.

Then keep it, don't do something you will end up regretting when it's too late.
x2! How is this even a question

I currently own a Regal & a Cutlass...my plan is to sort of finish/paint my Regal before this summer & drive it....that way I won't be tempted to rush on my 85' 442 & cut too many corners that I would regret later...My cutty is outside next to my garage behind a privacy fence with a cover on it...Nothing has been done yet besides gutting the interior so No Biggie....I sure wouldn't feel right driving a Grand National in the snow/salt....Id keep both cars & grab a $500 winter beater/throw away...

cutlass!!

Cutlass is the way to go. You will always have something you built with your old man. I vote cutlass all the way!
