Can anyone tell me what ratios would be in a stock grand prix from the late 70s to late 80s? I know theres a lot of different models but if someone knows what all ratios would be in them it would be a huge favor. Im lookin for a better rear for my monte and its harder than a newly weds dick to find an SS in a salvage yard. Im gonna ask the same on the cutlass section so any help is greatly appreciated.

Add a location to your profile. It can help you with locating things.

As for the ratios, there's plenty. The most reliable way to get the ratio is by pulling the rear end cover and checking the numbers. Another means is by looking for the RPO code underneath the trunklid. I'm not sure when GM began this, but not all years have the RPO sticker there.

Your best bet for better ratios are going to be in an SS, 442, GN or T-type. Otherwise here's a list of RPO codes

Don't forget that unless you already have an OD trans, stepping up to a lower gear will really affect your rpm's.

I'd suggest checking craigslist, http://www.car-part.com, or posting want ads in local classifieds....like craigslist. I've found several 3.73 rearends from Montes for under $200.

In regards to the Grand Prixes, the best stock rear end that came in the rare 2+2 was only a 3.08 if that tells you anything.

Im located in Bellevue, Ohio its about 15-20 mins south of Sandusky. Ive looked on craigslist and all i found was a 3.08 posi for $300. If you have a set laying around im definatley interested same goes to anyone else.
