I have a 1987 Monte Carlo LS. When I closed the door I had the dreaded window rattle. I was able to reduce this greatly by doing two things. First I replaced the dry rotted window sweeps. I purchased them from Mikes Monte. They came with the chrome trim on them and all the holes pre-drilled. Next I set the window stop so that it left the window about a 1/4 inch higher in the door when it was rolled down. This allowed a greater portion of it to be supported by the sweeps when the door was closed.

This did not solve the issue 100% but greatly improved on the initial issue.

I didnt buy the sweeps yet but i did the best i coud. I bought all new door panel clips. At the bottom of the window the window was making contact with a bracket when lowered all the way down. I used tape for those contact points. Used tape on the rod for the lock and door hinge. Adjusted the top window stops. Makes about 30% less noise i have to buy the sweeps.

I was lucky that my window was not contacting anything it should not have been when lowered. I did use tale behind the rod for the door handle but not the lock. I should say I was lucky in that the inner sweeps were in very good shape. The outer were crumbling when touched. I did also adjust the upper guides, forgot about that step. That was done since after replacing the weep the window leaned in a little more than it should have.
