As you know, i have an 86 Supreme with a lil over 48K miles on it. The car is in really good shape but needs a paint job soon. This summer i am going to work 4 jobs so i can get some cashflow in and start fixing it. I'm hoping to paint it in july.

Here's what it comes down to: Should i build up the 307, start building a 350 chevy enging (planning on making it the 383) or go with the 502?

Also i would really like to get a posi rear and finish my suspension from global west.

Thanks,
Kyle

put as much as you can afford to put into it . i put a 355 then a 383 and 383 runs like a devil . dont be cheap when you do it or it will come back to bite you . do it right the first time and you will be happier . 307 sucks.
things that need to be right -good starter, clean wires up in engine bay, good ignition (msd dist, msd 6a box, coil) you will not believe that so many cars could use better systems. headers, good card no need for 750cfm too big, good gauges. buy new allen grove pulleys or something else similar to keep things straight .
i tried to get used ones and painted up and once put on didnt line up or threw belts ect

u driving it daily?

As of now its parked 6 days a week cause im in college. This summer im buying a 4cyl car for better gas mileage and putting all i can into the cutlass. When its finished, it will probably be driven when i go home as more of a cruiser. I only live an hour from campus but stay on campus because of gas prices.

I might let my lil brother drive it, but if its got the 383 in it then hes not

if you are going to cruise locally just get 400 or 350 with decent gears 3.23. i have 700r4 and 4.10 gears and then run 67mph at 2500 rpm , 3000 is about 80mph.
wifes 2000 vette with 6 speed goes 90 at 2000 rpm -pisses me off
700r4 will cost a lot more though but i drive it 8000 mile+ yr so i needed it , it would drive me crazy driving 3500 rpm everywhere

yes , my 4.10 gears with overdive makes it work like 2.95. if you dont mind spending $1700 vs 900 i would go with 200r4 or 700r4. i like my 700r4

TH200-4R & TH700-R4 are both 4-speed autos. The 700 has a more aggressive 1st gear, but the spacing between 1&2 are a big drop. The 200-4R has better gear ratios, but is a weaker trans. It can be built up to take 500+ HP & TQ, but at a cost.

As was posted before, if you're not going to do alot of long trips a TH350 or TH400 would be a better way to go as far as cost. And, they are damn strong too.

4.10's with a 4-speed or 3.73's with a 3-speed.
