It was bound to happen. I use my laptop 8-10 hours a day for entertainment because I do not have cable, and I got the black screen of death. At least it was not the blue screen of death (or is black worse than blue?). It told me that Hard Drive failure was imminent and to do a quick backup. Well, I had to go out and buy a external drive to do it ($91 for a Maxtor 500gb), and a new internal drive. I got a 320gb internal for about $15 more than an 80gb, and I also doubled the RAM to 2gb while I was in there. Needless to say, all this cost me a decent amount of money, about $120 for the internal computer parts, plus additional for the external drive. My problem is, how the hell do I get stuff off the other drive, and is there a way to transfer programs from the old drive (it still works, but gives the impending doom message) to the new one? I will say this though, this thing is now much faster than before. I just hope I can restore it back to what it was and get all of my iTunes, pictures and music files back on the new drive.

Well, I am going tomorrow to get a SATA external hard drive case for the old drive, and will try to transfer the data that way. This has to be one of the most time-consuming, aggravating things I could do. Give me 10 computer Quadrajets to rebuild instead of resetting this whole computer! I am also setting it up with a non admin. level user account now, but I can't get it to scroll with one touch like before, or like on the admin account. I was hoping to not have to work on this computer, and that it would last until the end of the year when Windows 7 comes out. That way, I would have bought a new machine, and relegated this one to a Linux experimental unit.
