I have read other threads about gaskets, but the sanderson directions say i do not need gaskets and just apply permatex px82180 ultra black silicone. I thought we were supposed to use the permatex copper sealent, block to gasket side only. What do you guys think, and thaks in advance for your help.

i usually use the fel pro gaskets. a friend gave me a set of mr gasket aluminum gaskets and those work good but i wouldnt pay 30bucks for header gaskets

I used the fel pro gasket or mr.gasket but never used any kind of silicone

Head gaskets have a definite thickness to them and it is important that it exists for compression and also so that you intake manifold lines up properly. Unless you have everything remachined, I think you need to use them.

Exhaust manifolds don't need gaskets, though. Is that what you meant by any chance?

OOps. I just saw you said header gaskets, not head gaskets. LOL.

I used copper RTV for my exhaust manifolds and there aren't any leaks. My engine rebuilder told me about it. He told me to just do a thin amount then torque. Wait about 12 hrs then torque again. He said that the exhaust gaskets will need to be torqued over and over. But, that's for a big cast iron manifold. I have no idea about what headers need.
