I have recently finished dropping in a 350 in my 78 Regal. Last night I put headers on her and discovered that the driver's side one touches the small metal line running with the frame from front to back. This probably wouldn't happen if the line was actually flush against the frame. It sticks out a little as it begins to leave the engine bay and head back. Is this the brake line and if so, how much clearance must there be in order to not boil the brake fluid with the header heat? Also, has anyone else put headers on only to find that the oil filter doesn't fit now? What filter can you use instead?

I had Hedmann headers do this. They were junk!! :wtf: I bought them brand new and I called their support line and they would not help me. So, I bought Dynomax and had no problem. I bought the complete dual exhaust kit from Jeg's

Yeah the ones I installed look just like the Hooker Headers 2451HKR from Summit Racing. I am putting Purple Hornies directly off the headers and got the passenger side on but couldn't get the driver's side on due to the crossmember being in the way. Looks like the previous owner had the same problem and cut a section of it out and braced it but it doesn't correspond with these headers. What should I do? Cut more of the crossmember out til it fits and keep bracing it, even though the more I cut out, the weaker it's going to get or do I try to have a shop pipe around it and through the cut out section already there? Also, why does it seem like she accelerates slower now that I have headers? If anything, shouldn't it be the same if not slightly faster than normal?

For the crossmember you can go with the jegster member or there is a couple other more expensive ones out there. You may need to adjust your carb since the exhaust is a whole lot less restricted.

I bought the Flowtech Afterburner headers with no issues at all......They are $180.00 or so, but well wort it....

That line you are talking about goes to the cannister in the engine bay. If you have a SBC in a regal that you are modifying you probably don't have the cannister hooked up anyways. You can bend it if you want, I've had my header touching the line for probably 8 months no problems

when i put in my flowtech's they hit the vent line, i just bent it out of the way, no issues. but the brake line was quite close since i had to replace it, i placed it farther away. you can make a basic metal shield to radiate the heat away.

Ahhhh, you too have the flowtech afterburners, good choice. I have purple hornies hooked to mine and nothing else

BTW if you get the ceramic coated afterburners, buy them from jet-hot. the ones coated by flowtech are only done on the outside, jet-hot does inside and out.
but the coating makes a huge difference! i had uncoated ones for break in, then had them done. now you can hold your hand right next to the header!

Same here with Jet Hot. My dad had his fenderwell 2 inch headers on his 440 Dart Jet Hot coated and they look amazing. Keep the headers much cooler. The other good thing is that Jet Hot does any necessary repairs and cleans the headers completely before they start coating them. That includes rust repair as well.
