Im taking the engine out this week to fix some leaks and repaint it so I figure lets throw headers on it to.I have headers from two other olds powered cars, I have a set for 70s Trans Am with a 403, and I had 70's big block A body headers ( had these in my 80 TA to help the 403 breathe) not sure if they fit. Is there a set of headers that actually fit well, I'm not opposed to buying a new set, or putting headers for another body style in there as long as the fit well. Its an 86 Cutlass with a 77 403 stock 4a heads with a port and polish. Its sitting on 307 mounts, has 307 7a manifolds on it, Offenhouser intake with an adapter and a q jet on it, Beefed up 200r4 trans, double hump crossmemeber, and I am also using the stock hood. Will any of the headers i have fit in there or should I just buy another set if so what kind?

The absolute best header to buy for a SBO in a G-body are a set of American Racing Headers. But, as you might have guessed, they are also the most expensive but are made completely out of stainless steel.
I think they cost in the $700-$900 range.

Other than those your stuck with the cheap stuff and the problematic fitment issues that go with them. I know most say to stay away from Flowtech, Dynomax, Sanderson, etc. Heddman's are supposedly somewhat okay.

I have heddmans and am looking into other brands. The heddmans I have end right at the transmission shift rod and I can't shift the car. I may have to go with the Sanderson shorties because of this problem.

I had a set from Dynomax on my 307 and they fit great.
I was impressed since at the time (8 years ago) they were only $110, I'm sure they're more now.

Hooker or Hooker Supercomps if you have money to spend, good flanges and welds which tend to warp or blowout with cheaper headers.
You get what you pay for with headers, I had a set of flowtechs from JC Whitney back in HS and they blew the welds after 500 miles. They also rotted really quick like swiss cheese, partly due to the stainless exhaust system I had.
