I am quite sure I have a leak somewhere now around my manifolds. Do they make a good header for the 4.3 V6 motor. I cant find one on the internet anywhere. Besides I would lke to get rid of the remaining smog pump garbage on the manifold i have still.

The smog is pretty easy to get rid of as long as you don't have a computer carb. Took the one off my malibu's stock motor years ago and one off an 84' silverado with no problem but both had regular q-jet carbs with no computer. As far as the headers, I couldn't tell you. I know the ricers probably have some running around but they only need one header, not two. Mustangs might also have a set but not sure never worked with a v6.

Yeah, but his car is a TBI setup, not a carb. It would require a bit of work to get free of the computer in the case of an 86. I would not do it because you will have issues related to fuel pressure regulation, etc. By the time you are done, it will probably run you $400-700 to properly ditch the computer, and not net any significant gains in the power department.

well I took the smog pump and motor

off, but I guess I wont go any further. IM going to buy 2 doors from a guy for $250 then start saving up for my paint job I badly need, I also forgot I need another $100 for the headliner replacement I just tore out. Thanks Guys

oh

this gets better everytime I take it there, today I was talkin to my buddy, we looked at my car, he noticed how wiggly the donut going from the manifold to the exhaust was. He replied those SOBs didnt even tighten that done for ya. So I came home put the 14MM socket on it, tightend it down, then snap almost putting my out out the stud snapped off. Well not i Get to take it to Muffler ****s to fix it again. Im confused, why would they not tighen this down, I am told about a spring kit i can have put on from my brother, do I want this? Plus why would the exhaust shop use like 6 washers on each side instaed of this spring kit.

I don't know if this will relate to your Monte, but I did a similar operation to my '87 Camino 305 carb engine. First I removed the smog pump belt and had an emission test run. Passed, no problem. Then I removed the pump and related lines, and capped any vacuum ports. I also shortened and capped off the pipe to the catalytic converter. With the exhaust manifolds off the engine, I removed the air nozzles, tapped the holes for a setscrew, and flowed POR-15 "Fire Seal" sealer over the setscrews before coating the manifolds with POR-15's manifold coating. All other emission stuff is intact. No codes, no problems, and now the manifolds look like the air nozzles were never there. PA emission inspection includes a visual inspection of the emission equipment, but I've covered my tracks well, so I've always passed. Doesn't run any better with the A.I.R. system eliminated, but it sure is less cluttered under the hood. Hope this helps.

Yeah im not

gonna do all that stuff, too much work man, im just gonna drop another engine in there pretty soon. Im more curious to know what the idiot shop is going to charge me to put a new stud in there and pull out the old one? as well as knowing why the hell they didnt bolt it down tight? Why would I want a spring kit, anyone know?

They probably tightened it, but the threads are so rusty that they didn't hold it. As for a spring kit, if you are referring to the springs that hold the downpipe to the manifold, they are there to let the exhaust move a bit when the engine shifts during operation. As for how to fix it, I would take the manifold off and replace the stud myself if I were you. They will probably want $100-200 for the job if they do it, while you can probably do it for about $20-30.
