I'm looking to add headers to my 87 GP and not sure how to go about picking the right ones. I have a stock 350(don't ask me how) and i'm looking at going 3in exhaust. Any suggestions???

Stock 350 which one? (place brand name here) I would also say 2.25" exhaust would be more than adequate for your application regardless if it is a Chevy,Olds,Pontiac or Buick.

Stock 350 - a good set of duals will more than suffice
Thx lilbowtie,
I'm new to the car building scene and so far I have encountered a lot of trail and error. I already got some Magnaflow mufflers and need headers to get them installed because I bought 3in. inlet/out mufflers. I sent them back once already because the first time I bought center/offset mufflers. I need a mentor 🙁

Best thing you can do to an engine is make it breathe better. Would you like to breathe through a straw or 2.5 inch exhaust? 😛 There are companies that make preformed and mandrel bent (no little ribs, one smooth transition for better flow) complete systems for either catback or header back applications. As for headers, you really don't need them if your engine is pretty much stock, but it's a helpful upgrade regaurdless. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pte-h8047 Here is a cheapo pair I just found. Sometimes it's just a google search away. People have been putting SBCs in G bodies since they came out and aftermarket parts ate everywhere. And keep in mind, you don't have to have the best of the best. You don't always have to have the most expensive thing. Patriot headers are just as good as Hooker or hedman. All you'd do is pay for the name and a little better quality. They're metal pipes, not too complicated. So, in short, just any ol SBC g body header (or look on your local Craigslist, they are always on there at one time or another), at least 2-2.25 inch dual exhaust (if you don't have a dual hump crossmember for dual exhaust, tell them to run both pipes through the one side so they don't hang low, or buy a 200$ crossmember. GbodyParts.com has a good one) and you'd be all set if you already have those mufflers. A competent exhaust shop would be able to adapt the 3 inch mufflers to whatever size exhaust you want.

3" is over kill but will be there for upgrades - your going to have to get a transmission cross member for the duals. 1 5/8 headers are plenty, I ran a set of Dyno Max ceramic coated headers to 11.30's on a 406 and switched to 1 3/4 and didn't gain anything. Don't know if they make them any more but they where reasonable. I like Schonfeld headers very reasonable and the best performance

Thanks, that is some very valuable information.

Any idea what your engine came stock in?
For that year car it should have had a 305 but when I bought the car it had the 350 in it. I wasn't too concerned about the engine because I knew that I would eventually redo the engine but I like the way duals sound regardless of what engine is in the car. I had a grand prix before with a stock 305 and I had dynomax mufflers and loved the sound. I had no intentions on upgrading the engine but now that i'm a little older, I'm more concerned about performance.
