Hey I have a 78 Monte.. And one day I took the gauges apart and was fixing my speedometer. Well my heater and ac wouldnt blow for nothing. Only when I drive I can feel the heat from the car. But after fixing the speedometer, I drove it up the street and the heat turned on ni problem. All my switches on my heater panel worked and it worked perfect. Then it stopped working, and I checked under my hood, then slammed my hood shut, and it popped back on. It worked for the next two days and went out again and I cant find a reason that it wont work. Its not my blower because I have a brand new one and two spares. Somebody said it might be a shortage. If anybody can help with this, please and thanks

Try this when it's not working. THE SETUP; with the key on, the fan switched on, disconnect the dist wire, (to protect it). NOW, starting at the blower motor, touch, or push together each connection, working backwards to the fuse box. A loose connection will show by the blower starting, a short will throw sparks. However, being it started after fondling the instmt cluster, a look at the fuse block might help. We took one (87 elky) back to the trans shop, when he hooked the oil pressure wire back on the S/U, we drove home with a blown dash, or guage fuse. He "bumped" something to cause it. Went home, new fuse, all cool. Good Luck 8) Try THE SETUP, and gently move the wires under the dash where you were working. Don't forget to rehook the dist.

What do you mean when you say push the connections together? Lol im completely lost at what you just told me. Besides disconnecting the distributor. And I checked all fuses, they all are in good condition. Thanks btw

These fuse blocks in the gbodys will, over time, get loose connections and fail due to metal deterioration and corrosion. Loose fuses act like blown ones. Switches are often blamed, when its usually loose connections at the switch, gauge, motor, etc... or the fuse block.

So wat do I need to do?

I checked the fuses and all are good. I even tried replacing them with new ones and still the same result. I really dont know right now. Someone told me it might be a shortage

if you have a test light/voltmeter..check for voltage at the blower unit. If you dont have it, theres a switch or wire issue in the dash. If you do have voltage, the blower motor may be going south....good luck.

Its a brand new blower. I actually went through 3 blower motors to make sure it wasnt the motor. Im guessing a wire in the dash somewhere. I might just take the dash apart because of this and I have a leak when it rains. My neighbor has a gbody regal and his car leaks the same spot as mines and usually when it rains. So I guess I have to look at them both. Any idea on how to take my dash down?

Very carefully!....the covers snap in, so it takes gentle help with a butter knife to get the covers off. Id start with the radio, then work up to the ac/heater control. I would suspect the blower switch is shot...but before you go this route, check the relay under the hood for the blower...make sure its not the problem before you take apart the dash.

How does the relay look?
