first of all i have a 1985 pontiac grand prix with the 305 v8. ok so i blew my th-200 metric up and decided it would be a nice upgrade to throw in a th-350. well now it looks like its not a direct swap like ive seen others saying. it looks like the torque convertor bolts on the flywheel are of a larger pattern. can someone tell me what flywheel i need and what else imma have to do now like starter and such.

just buy a small bolt patern torque converter or large if you have that on your car

Thats something you should do either way. The TH-200 would have had a lockup converter. It would be cheaper and stronger to avoid the lockup. As far as starter/flexplate. There are only two sizes, when I did my swap I had a 168 tooth flexplate. All you have to do is make sure the teeth on the starter match up, you'll find out quickly if they dont!

im an idiot, sorry, the flywheel bolt holes are too close together, meaning the converter is whats bigger not like i first said, i believe i have the 153 tooth one already, i need the 168 then and a new starter right? any other stuff i should know when swapping a th350 into a car with a th200, ive already bought new new speedo cable.

You'll need a new Detent or (Kickdown) cable. The TH-200s have a different end on them. And you might have to buy a new bracket for mounting it onto the carb. Other than that you should be good to go. You can reuse your crossmember but if your planning on running dual exhaust you'd be better off swapping in an aftermarket one with an opening on both sides. Just a tip.

do i have to get a different starter also? and would you be able to give me some hints of what to tell the autozoners for the kickdown as all they will ask me is make and model of the car.

Well you might have a hard time with them matching an aplication. Two things you'll need to be acurate are length and the size and shape of the end that goes into the trans housing. This is where it is difficult. The TH-200 has a larger hole than the TH-350 so you'll have to get the right cable fitting but it has to be the right length. If it is too long or short your not going to be able to match it up with the linkage very well. As far as the mounting goes you'll most likely have to buy an aftermarket bracket for it, the TH-350 Detent cables have a different fitting on the carb end of it. Stay away from dealerships, they'll charge about $40 + for the cable. I got mine at a Carquest for $20 after some searching.

most flexplates have both sets of boltholes so you wont need to replace that. a TH350 is a direct bolt in from a metric 200, just add the vacuum line.

too bad someone doesnt write a nice tutorial for swapping a th350 into a gp with a th-200 metric. like parts needed, people told me it was a direct bolt on, sure it bolts on the engine but now i gotta change other little parts that i was unaware of. if i woulda had a walkthrough my grand prix wouldnt still be in my garage since i started this topic. i could still use one even now maybe something with a good part description

It is almost a direct bolt on, since I have one in GP right now.

Detent cable, metal vacuum line (junkyard car or friend's pile 😉, I replaced shift cable to my floor shifter (mine was broke), and I would replace transmission mount (same).

Works great and well worth the trouble!
