ok on a lock up transmission, is it true that you can run a non lock up torque converter, and the car will drive, but when you run a lock up torqu converter, and the lock up is not hooked to the computer, the car will not move?

You can run a non-locking converter on your transmission, but the lockup mechanism is not computer controlled.

how is it controlled then? because there is an electrical system inside the transmission, and it is not hooked up to anything.

I think the signal comes from the transmission to the converter directly.

whats the electrical stuff inside it for then? It just dawned on me that the non lock up converter made the car move, but the lock up converter wouldnt let the car move at all, so if theres nothing telling it to lock up (aka whatever that is lol) then that would be my problem right?

There's an electrical plug on the side of the transmission. Just unplug it and the converter won't lock.

the lockup is controled by the computer and it only engages in top gear. you can drive the car with the trans unlocked all the time. all that will happen is that your MPG will suffer and the fluid temps will be higher, which could be a problem. it is possible that the TCC is stuck in the locked position, that would screw things up.
