Ok, i have an 87GP and removed the comp, I finally got a converter lock up kit from Painless. I need help identifying the switches under the dash by the brake pedal. The top one has a vacuum line and two wires , purple and pink I think it was. I removed the cruise control so I don't need that one any way but what are the two wires?
The bottom switch has a two wire connector and a four wire connector. I believe the two wires are the brake lights, correct? what are the four wires for? I'm sure someone here knows. Thanks.

Cj 😀

The top with the 2 wires and vacuum hoses is for cruise. The wires should be for the on/off and resume function IIRC.

The bottom is more than likely for the brake lights. You should have a wire for left, one for right, one for high-level in back window (since it's '86 or newer), and one for the battery IIRC.

You may want to double check with a test light to be sure.

Thanks for the response. Ok someone else told me that the purple wire is for tcc unlock, i'm getting confused. Does anyone have a wiring diagram. I want to know where the tcc unlock is, that way i can tap into those wires instead of using the new switch that comes with the Painless kit (painless my a$$ ). Anyone ever wire up a torque converter lock-up? How'd you do it?

Cj :?

😀 OK I got it. The top switch with the vacuum line and the two wires(purple and pink). Well the vacuum line is to disengage the cruise control when activated. The purple and pink wire is for the tcc solenoid. The pink wire is a switched(ignition hot) +12v and remains "on" as long as the key is on. The purple wire goes the connector on the side of the trans. When the brake is pressed the switched opens, and the 12v at the purple wires turns "off". When the brake is released the contact closes in the switch and the 12v is returned in the purple wire.
So now all I need to do is wire up the new solenoid harness, solenoid and 4th gear pressure switch in the trans and tap into the purple wire and I'm in business 😀
