Hello there i realize this is not g body related and hope this is the correct section for this topic

i have a 1985 chevy blazer 4x4 2.8v6 recently the transmission has been slugish shifting into first it seems to have this happen when cold mostly i checked the fluid and it is brown and slightly foamy what i am wondering is should i replace the fluid and filter or is my transmission toast. It still works in all gears just extremly sluggish to shift from first it is a automatic i believe it is a 700r4

thank you kindly

I've seen it go both ways. Replacing the fluid and filter could kill it or could help it go some more.

Your call. sounds like it is time for a rebuild but if it were mine I'd do the filter/fluid replacement and see how far it goes.

at this point you have nothing to lose to pull the pan and look!!!

i pulled the pan there is no metal debris in the pan so the next step would be replacing the filter and fluid and reinstallation i should theoretically be good to go

help

it's alwas good not to find large chunks of metal 😀 what you need to check is if there's a lot of black goo on the bottom of the pan, that will be clutch fiber...the only other thing you can check is the tv valve...just push it in and see if it comes back to the original position if it does replace the filter and cross your fingers 😀 .....jesse
