hey guys looking for some help...i have put a 95 chevy truck motor in my 79 cutlass it runs fine(carb swap)kept the serpentine belt... but cannot get the alt... to charge. i've tried different alt. even the one out of my 90 suburban which i know is good holds 14-15 volts when running...i've ran the simpilest form of wiring in this car..
1red battery cable to starter
2red starter to alt..ran like this to hide more of my wiring 🙂
3red starter to ign
4 purp ign to solenoid
5 pink ign to dist..
am i missing something there is a brown wire for the alt... i believe to be for the gauge.?
is there suppose to be a wire to turn on the internal regulator?
any help i gotta drive this thing 125mi in a week to car show thanxs

You should go to Napa and get the CS130 converter and run a hot from the terminal on the alternator directly to the + battery terminal.

is it not ok to run the alt to starter first since its all coming and from the same place?

my bat is on pass side and alt is on driver so thought i could divert through the starter

ok i see the cs130 acts as resistor (on the brown wire which is hooked nothing right now ...waiting on my gauges)to kick on the voltage regulator?

You at least need the brown (I think) hooked up to the alternator, do you have a voltage gauge or idiot light in your car for battery?

If you have a gauge you'll need resistance in line to energize the alternator, which is why you should order one of the conversion harnesses.
