so i just cleaned my seats with a toothbrush to get in the grooves, and a scrub brush to do the bigger areas, some Gain powder detergent and some Oxyclean, they came out great for some used seats, got a set of NOS seat belt guides off ebay for $15...have all the chrome for the seat backs, but i think i'm gonna paint them silver as the chrome is peeling. I'm undecided how to restore the seat backs? i went to the local Rhinoliner and they wanted to charge me $60 to do them....way too much i thought, but expected....i think i can get them just as good on my own, but i want some texture to it....i was gonna sand it with some 180 real quick to get some of the scratches out, then i need som kind of texture paint...any ideas?????

If you were going to have them rhino lined anyway, why not just got to Wally-world or a parts store and get the roll-on bed liner? Then you could spray whatever color you wanted on after it's set up.

i thought about that, but it only comes in black, i want the seat backs tan, so then i would have to paint the black white, then tan, or multiple coats of tan...should I use the SEM paint?

I would just scuff it with a grey scotch-brite pad and shoot it with SEM that matches your color. Don't try to get the scratches out by sanding. If they bother you, keep an eye out for nicer seat backs that you can dye.

SEM now makes the correct texture as a base coat in a spray can.

Wet sand the backs then use a scotch bright, wash with dish soap and water, rinse and let them dry in the sun

Use the SEM spray texture base.

Then use the SEM spray paint.

It is hard to see in the pics but this is how mine turned out.

I think it came out great and was very happy

EASTWOOD even used it in one of there ads to promote SEM's product

While we are on the subject of restoring these seats, my chromium/plastic bead around the edge is bad, does anyone know where I can buy replacement material?
Thanks

A guy sells it on ebay, although I have never used it before. So I can't tell you if it is any good or not.

TURNA--THAT is a beautiful interior; and I would suspect very unique with the column shift-specific center console. I don't believe I've ever seen one of those before. very cool. I had a 78 MC with that interior, but it was in vinyl. again, very nice.
