How Do You Deal With a Neighbor's Barking Dog?

I have a next door neighbor who lets his incessantly barking German Shepard out at 6am to start barking. This worthless creature then proceeds to bark all day long and kill any chances of me getting sleep. I work during the evening until around midnight-1am and go to school in the late morning/early afternoon hours, so this is a real problem to me. One of my neighbors has already tried the legal system to no avail, and I have even tried talking to them which solved it for a week, but then they proceeded to put the dog outside again. I am getting no sleep and it is driving me nuts. Does anyone know of a way to deal with the problem without harming the animal and possibly getting arrested? I really don't want to go to war with them as my Cutlass is up on blocks in my driveway and they could start something with code enforcement.

The dog is not the worthless creature, trust me. If you watch the show "The Dog Whisperer", Ceaser Milan rehabiliates dogs and trains owners. This is a case where the owner needs training to become a good pack leader. With proper training won't bark, at least as much.

As for letting to dog out all day, is the dog properly fed and have water available?

its true!!! i had the same thing years ago... luckily they moved. but its true, its not the dog's fault. he knows no better. its the ******* owners. people suck.. and yeah, i agree - start something and they may mess with your baby. screw that.

in the meantime...i highly recommend earplugs that have a HIGH decibel-reduction level. you can probably find them online. a certain brand [i forget] sells them in levels of sound-eliminating. it may be a quick fix... or a sound generator thing that has a white noise option. it will block out the barking [hopefully] and zone you into sleep.

GOOD LUCK!
post pics of the car soon, too!

VINCE 😀

Yeah, I know it's not the dog's fault, but as I was writing it the damn thing was barking next to my bedroom window. Ear plugs will not work as I have tinnitus and the ringing in my ears will keep me up as well. I already use 2-3 fans and a TV for white noise to drown out the ringing, but they will never drown out a large ( 80 lbs plus) german sheperd barking 10 feet from my bedroom wall, nor the Doberman on the other side of it's fence as they get bored and make each other bark. I can hear them loud and clear on the other side of my small house too. My neighbor who needs a hearing aid to hear and lives on the other side of their house is also disturbed by them and has tried to call the county on them, but they will do nothing for him. He's in his late 60's and building a 73 Camaro, so we talk all of the time and help each other with our projects ( I am using his welder, flanger and nibbler to do my floor and his air file for my Bondo). If only the guy between us was that cool, we'd be in much better shape.

Buy a bark collar and kindly ask the neighbor to use it for 1 week, believe me that's all it will take. If that doesn't work you'll just have to buy a pellet rifle and teach it not to bark from a distance.

Good grief. what a mess.
pellet gun? that can only end in madness.
i have no idea. just dont do anything cruel. people think that animals and dogs are JUST like us...no, they dont see what they're doing as "bad". dont punish them for it. maybe you can "remove" the residents from the houses, and then another loving family will come and adopt the orphaned dogs!!!

kidding.

whatever happens, good luck.

Well, I found an online ad for a device that they don't need to know I am using and it does not harm the dog. Basically, it senses when a dog barks and the emits a ultrasonic sound that only a dog can hear and will not like. It varies it every time so the dog does not get used to it and eventually associates barking with discomfort and stops barking. It basically gives the dog a Pavlovian complex, if you will, about it's own behavior. Unfortunately, it's $100 and I am now looking for a cheaper alternative. No, I will not physically harm the creature- I do not wish to go to jail or get fined for animal cruelty. I just want my life back! As for posting pics of the car, they are in the pictures section of my Myspace ( link in sig) and there are some in the pictures section of the forum. It has not changed much in a few weeks due to school and my lack of sleep.

let me know what you find that works! i got the same problem ,same kind of dog only one house away.
