How hard is making a console?

Was just curious of how hard it is to make your own console. Id like to making something cool for my cutlass thats different than the consoles everybody has. I have an idea in my head that ive thought about for a couple years now just not sure how to go about it.

You could go fiberglass, build a wood base to glass over. I've been in process of making one for my malibu for a number of years, other more important projects have put it on the back burner. I started with a stock malibu console, that had fallen off my car and shattered :x , I basically used its remains taped and super glued together as my mold. I extended it out in the front via card board extensions. Once I glassed over this and it cured, I was able to remove the mold. Then start shaping it in, that's as far as I got, lol.
