just finishing my new engine build. 355, 10:1, 215cc runner 2.02 1.60 pro comp heads, single plane pro comp intake, roller rockers, comp magnum 270h cam (270 adv dur, 0.47 lift intake and exh), afterburner headers, 730 cfm 4bbl.
this will be with a 2004-r w/ 2200 stall and 3.73. what do you think????how much power should it make???

If you plan on tweeking with the power and halling a**, not very long. My understanding is both the 2004r and 700r4 can handle up to 330-350hp in stock form, IF in good shape. You have to consider that transmission is already 25 years old with original parts and you don't know how someone else drove it. It will only be a matter of time, or seconds, before that trans gives way behind that new motor.

Why re-use stock when you just spend all that money on building a nice motor? Do it right the first time, you'll hate yourself later if you don't.

buy a used one off cl and build that up and just use urs till it craps. if i had it in already this is what i would do. but if not just go through it while u got it out.

ive got a 350 horse 350 and a 700r4 ready to throw in my le mans, though i dont have a diff. i know the stock diff cant take the 350 full out, but i do drive the car daily and would like to know if i could run the stock diff, if i drive somewhat civil.

In regards to the stock differential, yes you can use it. My motor was putting out 380 to 400hp and I was putting the car in reverse then throwing it in drive doing j-strip burnouts. I was trying to break the stock rear end and the damn thing wouldn't break, so I couldn't have a reason to rebuild it. I'll tell you right now, those burnouts were far from civil.

ive heard tales of a 400 pontiac puking the insides out of the diff out after a hard launch. mind you the car was running slicks. im stuck with it for now anyway.

You'll be ok as long as you don't run sticky tires or slicks OR have two fat bastards in the back while doing burnouts or a launch, a combonation of slicks and fat bastards will garrentee destruction!
