guys, would like to swap the standard one with a tilt on my build- where would I go about finding this? eBay? Thanks...

You could phone Mike @ MikesMontes;
http://www.mikesmontes.com/
He strips parts off of G body's and he might have just what you want.
Some of the parts he has aren't listed on his website,so best to call him.

Get one from a manual S-10 Blazer or pickup. They're really close, but you'll need to transfer the floor plate. You'll also need to swap the steering shaft since 78s used a different spline.

If you go to MonteCarloSS.com, and go into the technical forums, look for an article on a 5 speed swap into a Monte by a guy by the name of Marc Hichens. In his swap article, he details how to create a tilt/manual comun for a G body. If you're looking for an original '78-'81 GM A body tilt/manual column, good luck. They are EXTREMELY rare. I spent almost 3 years tracking one down, and in the end, I found one more by luck than anything else. The suggestions offered above are also good.

Thanks guys, I'll look into all of these- not looking for originality. I even got on ididit website and flaming river but didn't see any applications for the 78. I hope the aftermarket picks up on more gbody stuff...

What year(s) S-10 Blazer or pick up? Thanks

I never knew one existed till I bought my 78 salon. here are some suggestions; I've read that jeep Cherokees, and Comanche pick ups from the early eighties fit but haven't confirmed it. if your not looking for originality, then buy or build an auto floor shift tilt column. if you want the ign cylinder interlock lever, then buy a key cylinder for a mid-nineties Camaro with manual, its built into the cylinder.

Maybe this can help

I believe the electricals are a bit different as well making the 78 specific.making a swap more difficult as well.

Adapt, overcome (and seek advice on the Forum!) Thanks for chiming in, Joe! 1978 was a transition year for the G-body. Front wheel bearings, taillights, steering shaft, power steering box fittings. Not surprised the column was different, too.
