I ran into a guy that is in a pickle and he needs to get rid of his 1980 Regal. Here's the story on the car:

Built in 2004-05. Car was from Arizona
Body off amateur resto. Frame, susp, everything painted
403 Olds built by a machine shop (motor is from a '77 Trans Am)
Th350 w/shift kit
Camaro sway bars, and a bunch of other stuff that I don't remember the details of.
Mostly in storage for 6 years, driven occasionally in Summer, about 3000 miles supposedly
Car is painted white w/ gray int.
I haven't seen it yet, only build photos.

OK so the 1980 Regal is not exactly the most desirable G-body on Earth. I happen to like the early Gs that you don't see many of. I just assume that any car that has this much work done to it has to be worth something. But I don't know if it's a car that I can sell for any kind of money if I get in a pinch. I'm no Jay Leno either, so there is only so much cash to toss around and tie up in stuff!

Thanks a bunch

Re: Need some advice from you Regal guys

I would search the classified in the local paper and craigslist to see what a similar ride in you area is going for.
The only odd part is they built it, and it went into storage. As for worth, if you dig it your good, flipping it might be hard in the current economic climate. Around here between $1500-6500. There is a back half Regal drag car with 'glass everythig except roof and quarts, Moser 9 inch, etc for $1900, some assembly required. Another one is a later 80's Gran Prix with all sorts of good drag car stuff, no heart $4500, nice driver Malibu's $3500-6500 price seems to go up for cool stuff like a/c and big blocks.

Re: Need some advice from you Regal guys

From what I saw in the photos this is one beautiful car. Original non-vinyl top car.
I know if it was a 1984 model it would be worth an easy 7 grand. I guess that doesn't matter much though.

Re: Need some advice from you Regal guys

Gotta decide by Saturday. Anybody want to throw some words out here? If it wasn't so dam cheap I wouldn't be bothering..

That sounds like a pretty good deal, especially if you can get it down to around $2500 or less. Without seeing any pics and just goin by the decription I would assume it would sell around 4-5 G's in my area assuming the interior and paint are good. I also like the early G bodys but they are hard to come by, especially the Regals and GP's. I would go for it.

OK cool, thanks for the advice. It's gonna be a stretch for me though. I'll be nearly broke if I buy it

MN is taking up to 3 months to get a title sent out. I still don't have one for the Riviera, and that was Labor day. It would be late February by the time I could flip it. But that's when the toy market goes way up around here too.

Yeah it seems I always find the deals that shouldn't be turned down when I dont exactly have the cash to do it. My better judgment (ie. The Wife) ususally talks me out of it and I usually feel like I missed out when I decide not to jump on a deal, bad part is she is usually right.

Yeah, a good woman is harder to come by than a good car for sure.
My wife was somewhat on board to pitch in half and take half the profits in the Spring, but I'm just not one to do that stuff. If I buy something it's gotta be cuz I really want it for myself long term. Besides I've got PLENTY on my plate already!
