One 6.0 GTO was heading east on highway 290 toward Houston today. Also heading east toward Houston was one highly modified 1978 Malibu. The GTO decided to challenge the Malibu to high speed chicken. The Malibu's speedometer only goes to 85mph, but it was going much faster than that. The Malibu's motor was running at 4000 rpm and had a temperature of 215 with an outside temperature of 95. All the Malibu's power from the ZZ4 goes through a 700r4 and a 8.5 axle with 3.42 gears.

Todays algebra question is " How fast was the Malibu going to rip the rear window chrome off and the driver to realize the motor is getting too hot before bowwing out?"

I see no mention of tire diameter as well was you're 700 r 4 in lock up ?

Yeah, tire height is needed before you can make the calculations for speed at a given engine RPM, as well as the converter slippage percentage or lockup. If the converter is unknown, it is not a solvable function without knowing the forces opposing the converter ( aerodynamic drag, friction of tires, torque output at that RPM, size of the converter, etc. all alter the action of the converter.) Plus, the overall cooling efficiency of the car and the driver's tolerance for engine temperatures need to be plugged in to the function too.

NO lockup and tires on rear are 275,45 r17's

there are toooooo many variables to give you an accurate answer another thing I forgot to mention was tire expansion , the higher the wheel speed the larger the diametre of the tire.

Not only that, but the variance in height of different brands of tires, and the tread thickness need to be taken into account as well.

I am alost certain with the calculations I have here infront of me assuming you're tires are approx 28 inches in diametre with a 10 percent slippage rate and 3 percent for tach accuracy. The answer is ,

too slow if that pos pulled on you

Aaah, but are you taking into account the slew rate of the ignition controller? (Sorry, but I just had to try and keep it going!)

rob, I hold my head in shame 😳 . I did keep at the same rate as the GTO and I so wish I could have taken my car to it's limit. In my defense I had spent an hour in traffic before our meeting and I was ready to pull over because of overheating before we met. EXCUSES ,EXCUSES ,EXCUSES! I know.

My guess to the question is 110-130mph. The speed limit is 70 and we were passing them like they were standing still.

How do you tell when a Texan is driving? He's the third one going through the red light.....Hahaha...I know corny joke

it's alright no matter how fast ur car is there will always be one fster ffs
