my quadrajet has no primary choke air flaps and the secondary air flaps are hooked up to nothing. i will be going to the junkyard hopefully on tuesday to get some vacuum cans and rods to get the secondary flaps working.

while i'm there should i grab the primary air flap? i don't know if it is necessary or not.

The choke flap is only needed if you want to start the car.

i was wondering cuz i have no flap on my primaries.

i will be making a junkyard trip tomorrow.

also my secondaries i just noticed are starting to open when the primaries are about 70% open and only seem to be cracked open at WOT. this is where this thread ties into my other thread "rpms kinda float..." i think. i didn't really see an adjustment for when the secondaries start to open or for their full opening amount.

any help here would be awesome. also i have been scouring quadrajet websites.

The secondary throttles do work like that. They do not really open until right before WOT as they are not necessary 99. 8735% of the time. The actual air the engine sees is controlled by the top throttle plates, AKA the Secondary Air Valve. (This is why the air valve controls the secondary metering rods). This CAN be adjusted with a small allen wrench and a small screwdriver by varying the closing spring's tension. It only opens enough to feed the engine's needs, and it rarely ever sees a fully open state, even at WOT. It's opening rate is controlled by engine vacuum sucking it open balanced against the closing spring's tension. The vacuum dashpots are there to prevent it from opening unless it is REALLY needed. It's really quite an ingenious system once you take the time to learn it. It is kinda complicated, but it does allow for more finite tuning of the fuel curve under a broad array of loads. In this respect it is far better than most other street carburetors. It's also the one with the longest learning curve, but the biggest rewards in part-throttle driveability as well.
