A new engine, lol. You really can't get much power out of it without a bunch of money.

I like to see them kept original . There r less every day . I see the prices going up all time but for original cars . There I vented now to real life .

But like was said . The 307 is not good motor to put money in. The purest would say find a OLds 350 ,403,455 . But A Chevy motor will fit in with few mods and r easy to find . 350 is the way to go . Put your 307 in comer for changing back if want to .

Wats a good place to find a 305 or a 3508 chevy engine

Craigslist

It really depends what your expectations are for your car. For instance horsepower styling etc etc.... Imo you can have some work done to the 307 to make it run better plus the increase and your gear ratio will change the performance fell of your cutlass also.

Nice car. I don't know much about the 307, but the 350 is somewhat fun. But, if the motor is running good, then I'd run it as long as it will go.
Maybe some of these options will help a little:
Put on some better exhaust, maybe headers too.
Upgrade your air intake system (what ever can be done to an 86).
Better fuel delivery system upgrades, whatever can be done to the 86.
You might be able to go to a better distributer, with a better advance. (not sure for 86)
GEARS. A must. It will use more gas on average, but will move a little faster.
Better traction if your off the line launches burn rubber.

The gears and exhaust might be your best option with a good tune up. Plus, the exhaust will make it sound nice.

It all depends on what you plan to do with your car or motor expectations. I'll tell you some simple upgrades that you can do to the 307 that will xfr over to and sbo or bbo

transmission/Rear end(lol not a motor) shift kit on your current transmission or go with a bop th350 and shift kit it rear end gear upgrade

Ignition(if you get rid of the ccc)computer controlled carb) performance distributor, plugs and wires...if you keep the ccc just get some good plugs, wire, and a module

Air/fuel edelbrock intake usually pretty cheap on ebaymotors seen some for 50-75 and new carb or rebuilt your current carb and a nice air cleaner

Exhaust either have you cross over pipe closed so you can run true duals...or purchase some headers
and possibly a valve job on your heads, Also, If you money's right some port or polish work
