Does anyone know if a late model impala ss rearend would fit into a gbody? I heard from somewhere that they are posi type rearends and will bolt up to a gbody. I also heard that some come with 3.08 gears which is the ideal gears for my application.

Nope, too wide. To get that rear in a G body app, you need one from a 84+ turbo Regal or 442. If they interchanged, we would all be running them as they are a HUGE improvement strength wise over the 7.5/7.625 axles 99.9% of g bodies came with!

do the control arms mount up clean though? too wide is a good thing for me. i want to use c5 rims which have a deep offset.

I don't know about the control arm geometry, but I'd be very surprised if it were the same. As for the C5 rims, the SS uses a 5 x 5" bolt pattern, the Corvette uses a 5 x 4.75" pattern (or possibly even a metric one now). The width difference is about 4" (58" vs 62", in round numbers).

The posi and gears would work, but the axles are too long.

As for width, just go find any B body made from 1977-1996 and measure it against a G body. They all share a common frame and axle width.
