The Indy cars are in town this weekend, I managed to go (finally) for the first time. The summers are short up here and there are a lot of options on the weekends, so it just didn't happen for me til this year.

Today was just practice, but it was still pretty cool, you could see the drivers pushing harder every lap to get up to race speeds. There were a few spins, and one pretty solid crash involving Danica Patrick and Dan Wheldon. (not her fault) It was hot and thirsty, with more of the same in the forecast. Two more days, it's gonna be a fun weekend.

Whew! Three days of hot sun, asphalt, and very little shade. I'm done in! The racing was cool, but my buddy and I agree that we prefer the drags, more of an instant gratification, I guess. Nothing like a 4 second pass!

There were actually two races today, first was a GTP sports car invitational. They had all types and speeds of cars on the track at once, over 50 cars entered. They spread out quickly and the action was non-stop, with faster cars having to pass all the time. The winner of the fastest class was Monte Carlo bodied and 5.3 Vortec powered! More fuel on the fire for a Vortec swap. 🙂

The Indy race was pretty good, but Will Power (Penske Trucks) ran from the pole position and went to the finish without being passed. Yawn.
