hey everybody, its been a long time since ive been on here, but i still have my 87 monte ls and now im gettin after it as far as some updates ive always wanted to do with every g body ive owned, but this ones the best so far so its worth doin it. first thing im doing is updating the interior. id like to go through dixie monte carlo depot for all my parts, minus the seat upholstry as they dont have what im looking for. my big question is with interior dye/paint they sell, does anyone know if its a good product? if i go with it i plan on buying the vinyl prep, and plastic prep to go with it. i just dont want to have to do it twice so if theres somthin better out there im open to it. im plannin on black carpet, headliner, visers and the most of the trim. but i believe i may keep the dash blue upper door panels blue and rear insert panels blue. then i may get the seats done in all black or black with blue center inserts. kinda custom, kinda factory im trying to picture it done and i thinkit will either look great or thrown together any input would be great. im also thinking about trying to fisome eddie buaer bucket seats i have left over from a ford pickup project that never got done id like to try and fit. my car has the split bench which i believe is the same brackets as the factory buckets, right? the factory seat is power and the buckets i want to install are power if i can get these things on the g body brackets is hookiin up the controls to the stock power motor feasable? lots of stuff in this post, i apologize but, im finally ready to go with this thing.

I dont know from expierence, but ive been told by an upholstry guy that seat dyes' are a bad idea. According to him, the dye makes the cloth hard and nasty, and the dye can rub off a little bit. Like i said tho, just what ive been told.

I've had good luck with plastic dye but agree that fabric dye can be an issue.
The power bucket seat swap sounds like a good idea. Be aware that there are two different widths of power seat tracks. My '86 SS came with a split bench track that wouldn't fit a bucket seat from an '87 SS donor. The bucket seat bolt holes were 13.5" across and the track holes were 14.5" across. Your results may vary. I seem to be in the minority of people who have had problems with the swap.
There are power seat control switch mounting pods out there that will fit a factory Monte bucket. I found mine in a Cadillac Cimarron. The Buick or Olds part probably will fit as well.
Here's a picture of the switch. Not particularly close-up, but it's there.

im definatly not using any of the fabric dye, ive seen that used before and i just dont like the idea of spraying stuff on upholstry. if it was that easy everyone would do it. all really want use the spray on is the plastic panels really, not even the vinyl dash. my factory interior is blue so thats part of why i want to do black, blue combo. ill be purchasing the black lower panels, headliner, visors, carpet, and rear package tray material, the only thing that would get sprayed would be the plastic trim. i havent taken any measurments yet on my ford explorer seats yet with my tracks. im more wonder if i have to do any wiring uprgades to get full fuction out of these seats. they have all the controls right on them. one does all the functions as the factory monte seat, and the other one is for power lumbar. id also like to figure out how to make the passenger side, (which is non power in the monte, and non power for the explorer seat) power lumbar work. thanks

well i tried the explorer buckets on the power tracks, and yes the tracks were 14.5 wide vs being 13.5 wide. but that wasnt the big problems, the seats just sat way to tall in the car, so hopfully i can sell these seats to somone we know with a bronco, since i had them monted on bronco tracks originally. so i swapped in the buckets and tracks out of an 84 grand prix my brother and i working on for now, till swap meet season when i can get a another set of g body buckets and rear seat to recover. ive got the ls/cl interior with the "sofa" seats as we call em.
i also did some research and i think im going to use the sem product for the interior, as it seems like no one has anything bad to say about it.
