this may seem like a dumb question but how can i remove these? im going to be re upholstering some door panels and i need to remove the sweeps to do this. they seem to be stapled on, i mean im sure i can get them off, but whats it take re install them? i just cant see anyold staple going through the metal at the top of the panel to easy, is there anyspecial way to do this, or special tools need. i planing on doing the door panels over the weekened and i just dont want to get stuck. thanks

The best way is to use pop rivets to install new sweeps.

that sounds like a good idea, i like it, dont know why i didnt think of that. ive had alot of horrible brain farts lately, but rivets should have been obvious

Pop rivets work, but can also cause interference on the back side of the panel where it hooks onto the top of the inner door shell. (the staples are flat for a reason).

I've done this on dozens of cars...
Carefully remove the old staples with a small pliers and screw driver, and remove the old window sweep.
Take your new window sweep, and mark the locations of all the staple holes with a piece of chalk.
Drill 1/8" holes for the staples in the new window sweep.
Get some heavy staples, and put them in by hand, bending them over with your pliers or whatever, just be careful not to distort the window sweep and make sure it fits the way you want it to before securing it.

Takes a little time, but the results will speak for themselves.

i will give what blake442 is saying a shot first, if all else fails i will use the pop rivets. i not technicall replacing the sweeps. i just need to pull the original ones off and put them back on when im done with the upholstry work. the swaeeps arent to bad. im reupolstering a set of grand prix door panels, using sem on the lower plastics. my main reason for this im going to manual windows, and these panels are set up for it, also it will eliminate my pull straps, cause i always seem to have and issue with them falling apart cause everyone yanks on them, the grand prix panels dont use a pull strap.

what this wise man said.

when i replaced mine i drilled holes for the new staples that came with my sweeps. i would not rivet them in.

it's harder with the staples BUT, it's well worth the extra time and labor to do it that way. in fact i still have extra staples left over since they gave me way more than i needed.

I've had the same question/concern.
I'm going to take the easy way out and just drop the panels off at my upholstery guy and let them deal with it. 😉 That could be option number three.
