found a good deal on a 750dp core. 50 bucks is what the guy is selling it to me for. so im gonna get it and rebuild it. ive never done this. but im more than capable of doing it. and im 21, they dont teach carb rebuilds in tech classes anymore. just looking for any tips, any special tools i should pick up. thanks for any info.

You can get a book on Holley carbs. You can glean alot of information, plus theory on how cabs work, etc.

I have two Holley books.
One is Holley Carburetors and manifolds by Mike Urich and Bill Fisher (HP books)

The other is: Super tuning and modifying Holley Carburetors by Dave Emanuel (SA Design)
Both books are very informative.

They're worth checking out.

i was thinkin about gettin a book on holley carbs. i saw one at the parts store. when i goto order the rebuild kit ill have to buy one.

They aren't too bad to rebuild.........Just make sure you get a good carb cleaner to soak the main body in.....just remember to put everything back together the way you took it apart.Even take some pics as you go so you don't forget....YOu can even Google "How to rebuild a holley carb" and you'll get alot of good info that way as well...$50.00 is a good deal for the core.Good luck and keep us posted 😀

i was gonna use carb cleaner and a nylon brush to clean all the parts. should i let the main body soak in a bucket of cleaner overnight?

over night is good, but I'd leave it for even longer than that. A few days should be plenty. You'll have alot less scrubbing after, and the cleaner will have a chance to work thru all the small crevices.

... when you get a kit, it might be worth it to fork up some $$$ for a jetting kit. Jets always come in handy, and you'll have less running around if you need to fine-tune the carb after the rebuild.

cheers,

Besides a good carb cleaner...a source of compressed air...such as a compressor and an air nozzle/ blow gun attachment. You won't really have to soak the carb body for that long depending on how dirty and grimy it is. Soaking it over night would be sufficient enough.
Holley carbs are fairly straight forward . When you purchase the kit, it will generally include a parts break down.
When you disassemble it, lay everything out on a clean table or unobstructed work bench. Pay close attention to how things came apart so it can be assembled the same way.

okay thanks. i have a compressor and a blown gun. and i got a jet kit already. yes they do save alot of running around time. i ordered this one from jegs when i first started messing with holley carbs. i prob wont get around to rebuilding it till next week but i will let yall know how it goes.

well i got everything taken apart. its soaking in some carb cleaner tonight. i called holley and gave them the carb numbers. its a 750 dp mech secondaries, no choke. ordered the kit from the parts store today so it will be here tomorrow morning. so i will put it back together tomorrow. not to many parts at all, i thought it would be more. pretty basic.
