is there a way to test the lock up on a 200-4r with out pulling the pan off? its a 1984 grand prix, 305 ci with an aftermarket intake, carburetor, and distributor. i just did a filter and fluid change in it and really dont wanna have to go buy new fluid again 🙁

Re use the fluid you just put in there. Get a clean pan drain check what you need to check,
put fluid back in.
Gbarrie.

the only pan i have big enough is one of those closed top ones

cant clean the inside of it lol

nope its all molded together. im thinking if i can figure out what wire is the 12v positive feed i could directly wire it to a switch to see if that will work.
does anyone one have a wiring diagram for a 1984 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 305

I don't have a 2004R but my 700R4 has the same connector. Mine isn't computer controlled anymore because of all the aftermarket stuff, and I'm guessing yours is the same. Test the wires with a voltage tester to find which is the 12 volt. Once you've found it feed it and listen closely at the front of the pan in a quiet place and you can hear the lock-up solenoid click and engage. I can't remember if the 12 volt is pink/black or light Brown/w black, hell maybe it's neither.

the only place i have to work on it is out side lol my grand father has the garage taken over
:bump:

Does your GP run? If so, this is what we used to do at work. Get out on the highway at about 100k/mh or so, (60mph if your in the US) Keep the throttle and speed steady and watch you tach. Once it settles in at a regular pace, just tap the brake pedal like you would to disable a cruise control. If your lockup works properly, you will see the tach increase by about 300 rpm as the lockup releases and go back down as it re-engages a few seconds later. The important part is your speed must be constant so that the brake pedal tap is the only variant.
