Is there an easy way to remove the Pontiac "sail" emblem from the nose of a 1980 LeMans? I was looking at this yesterday, and it looks like I need to do some major dis-assembly just to be able to get to the (1/4"?) nut that holds the emblem on. Or is this a case of there being a custom made GM tool to get at it?

No easy way. I'd try removing the grills first.
On the Grand Am you have to use a wrench and make 1/4 turns the whole time.
1 nut comes off easy. The other one takes some time.
I forget exactly how the Lemans comes off.

I am looking for a one of those nose emblems anyone have a nice one for sale ?

I need a new one for my '79 as well. I've been meaning to look at a late 70's Firebird or T/A to see if they are the same. If they are they sell them in the National Parts Depot catalogue for something like $50 repro. From any on line pictures they look like they might be the same but I want to see one in person to know for sure.

The p/n is on the back of it. I can't remember what it is off hand. I bought a nos one for a G/A and it's a little different. I doubt there's much interchange between models.

Both the T/A and the LeMans have that "rib" in the center that the emblem "wraps around", I'd have to look at one to be sure. I hope they're the same, I was hopingto get a nice shiny new one when my car is painted 😀
