Been trying to score a AL hood and bumper rebar for my 84 Cutlass. I have heard about aluminum 81' and up hoods and even seen one on Ebay {CAN"T belive I didn't bid on it!!} but can't locate one again. Any one holding??!
I also am asking if ANYONE has ever even SEEN the aluminum rad cradle?? I have heard of them, people SAY that they are around, but I have yet to lay my eyes on one!

I am running a Air Ride car so all the weight I can strip of the front end the better!

I have seen a few aluminum bumpers in the local junkyards in the last few weeks (Common to high option V8's), but the hoods are hard to come by. I got mine off a Canadian Diesel 83 Cutlass Salon with a 350 diesel in it. From what I gather, they were only used on Diesel cars to offset the additional weight. Because of the low survival rate of the diesels today, they are not as plentiful as they once were. I have only seen 2 or 3 of them in the local u pull it yards in the last 4 years-including the one on my car. If you do get one, it is VERY important to score the special hood springs! They are lower tension and keep the hood from bending when you try to close it. The core supports are also a diesel exclusive( from what I gather), and ones that do not suffer from corrosion or collision damage are very hard to find. I am trying to find a core support myself and have had no luck.

not to rub it in into anybody, but i bought a whole 78 grand prix front end-fenders, header panel, bumper, filler panel, grills, headlights, and radiator support--->all for $100. so i show up get pick it up from bonham, tx (about 3-3 1/2 hrs from okc), and boom, aluminum radiator support. oh yeah. they had no idea. i didnt mention it either though. they were just goin to scrap the damn car

My 78 GP came stock with one, I suspect they were common in the late 70s GPs.

I have found AL hood and rebar on the A body 78-80, gasoline, Cutlass up here in Canada. I even pulled a aluminum hood/rebar off a 85' deisel Delta with the AL hinges.
The mortality rate for G bodies up here in Canada is high with the winters and salt. I don't have them clogging up the salvage yards anymore. If you come across another one, I would be interested in buying it. I could send a premade hood crate to you and just ahev you fill it and return? I have been looking for almost 4 years and can't score one.

It must've been an Olds and early-Pontiac thing, because my GP (81) was originally diesel and it most definitely did not have an aluminum hood and the rad. support isn't either....

I just located one on Craigslist. It's in the Tampa Bay auto parts section, just use the search term Cutlass. The guy wants $125 and it's in Chiefland- I think that's by Orlando.

Oh, and for anybody looking for rust free body parts, I am considering starting a business buying and reselling them. I am curious if there would be enough interest to make it worth my while. I would be able to get things like doors for $100-150 ea+shipping, trunk lids for $75, Fenders for $50-75 etc.A set of rust free Cutlass/Regal doors just went to the crusher last week and it made me sad.🙁 It all would depend on demand and my time, as well as the stock of the 5 local U pull it yards. I currently run a Dominos pizza, but will be returning to college this fall to work on a Mechanical Engineering degree and may end up stepping down to driver. If I did, I would have time to pull, ship and sell stuff if it was worth my while to do so. If anyone is interested, please let me know. I'll look for your parts next time I go and see if we can set something up. I go 1-2 times a week for fun now, more if it makes sense.

BTW, if I did find a good Aluminum hood, I'd want $200 for it.....

I'd be interested in quality down south parts. Email me if you ever decide on doing it, and if you ever come across a AL hood 🙂

the aluminum cofre supports came on high optioned 78-80 cars. i pulled one from a grand prix not too long ago and i think i even left a post on here trying to sell it and nobody showed interest, just sold it on ebay about 3 months ago for 200 bucks. i ran across a aluminum deck lid for a monte a few months back but did not grab it since i had so many issues getting rid of the support. they are out there! target the 78-80 mainly grand prix and the rare lemans. most have a A stamped at the top passenger side and they have a little different shape then the steel ones. i will say that they are pretty lite, i am not into racing so i sold it to use the money for other parts.
