Anyone who has read George Orwell's novel 1984 no doubt remembers the "Telescreens", which were 2 way TV's where the government can watch you at home and make sure you are doing the right thing. Well, Oceana..err. Great Brittan has decided to actually implement them! Yes, the nation with too many surveillance cameras is going to start watching people in their homes to make sure they are raising their children right. I guess it is only fitting though as Great Brittan was Orwell's Oceana. Anyhow, here's the article: http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/115736/Sin-bins-for-worst-families As always, children are being used as a lame excuse to further encroach upon the rights of the individual.

Geez, its like they are using Orwell for a play book its only a matter of time before we have a secretary of morals, hell the average person in london is recorded something like 120 times a day. The last count in just the city of london there was around 1.2 million cameras I just wonder how long it will be before we start seeing this type of big brother here (probably in CA first 😢 )

It's definetly happening

and people see it happening without even relizing it

like all those "traffic" cameras all over the place

All I can say is look at the potential of RFID technology to track your every move. Many states have started putting RFID chips in driver's licenses. RFID tag readers are inexpensive and easy to implement. Plus, the chip needs no internal power source as it is powered by the radio waves the reader sends out to read it. So, if you walk by a reader with your license on you, then you give away where you are. The same can be said of cell phones, but you are legally required to carry ID on you in some states while the phone is optional.

microwave works good as well at a hard flat surface and a hammer for the id's

Here in AZ, we have Photo radar cameras everywhere! Red-light cameras, too! Pull a rolling stop at an intersection before turning right and you will recieve an expensive set of pics in the mail. Cant hardly go two miles on the freeway without seeing one.

I was wondering why they sell RFID blocking wallets (to put your IDs in). I guess that explains it.

We just received another red light camera near my work, actually they put it in 2 days ago. How nice of them.....they have a sign up, that there will be a 30 grace period for the new traffic light camera.

So for 30 days you can run it without getting a ticket.

Now why would they put up a sign that says 30 grace period?? I have not confirmed this, but my buddy said they change the duration of the yellow light at the intersection where cameras are. So now, instead of let's say a 3.5 second yellow light, it may be 2.4 seconds. That would make it easier to 'run' a redlight, making the city/government more money. Does anyone know if this is true?

As far as I can tell, it is true. I have noticed that the intersections that they have installed them at now have a shorter yellow. Just another way for "money-starved" local governments to line their pockets.

i wouldn't mind the rfid chip if they had a very limited range. just because it'd get rid of all the fake licenses the illegal immigrants have. unfortunately states like s.carolina will probably still issue them to the illegals. that and they could code them with your traffic stops and DWI's. but that would be for after you were stopped and the officer runs the id. not when you just drove by a cop.

The problem with that idea is the "Slippery slope" effect: If you say, "Oh sure, an rfid chip with a two-foot range is ok..." then in just a few years after we are used to living with it they will say: " We have decided to link your debit/credit cards with it for your convenience! Now you will only have to carry one card in your wallet! Oh, by the way, we will be extending the range of your card to help facilitate this new marvel of technology... We are only extending it to 15 feet, so as to protect your privacy..." I know it soulds a little paranoid, but thats how things like these get started.
