Hi Gang. I think you folks are going to get a real kick out of these pics. First, as always, the story.

Dad and I jumped in the Roady wagon early yesterday and headed about an hour and a half southeast of Austin to just about my favorite salvage yard for old car parts searching, John's Salvage Company in Seguin Texas.

I went down there to find an exhaust manifold for my buddy Mitch's 76 DeVille...but also to go marvel at all the cars John's has. He does not crush cars, and has stuff going back the at least the 1930's. Sadly we went about a month late, as the spring vines and shrubs are covering a lot of the cars. In the winter you can see them all. But I think you'll get the idea.

This is what you see on Fox Trotter Road as you approach the office at John's:
JohnsSalvage154.jpg

And pulling up to the classic car nut's version of Disneyland:
JohnsSalvage135.jpg

To start, here is what we went for:
JohnsSalvage003.jpg

When we got there, John told us to go to the "Manifold Bus" and see if we could find a manifold already off. We walked out the door to find row after row of old school buses jam-packed with parts. One was full of carburetors, one full of hubcaps, one full of tail lights, and one full of exhaust manifolds...and I mean FULL. Dad and I spent about 5-mins looking and all the manifolds and then started laughing. You could spend DAYS searching through there and not find the right manifold.

We walked back over to the office to suggest we go look in the Cadillac's and pull one off a car, and one of the old guys in the office sighs, gets up and says "Come On" and walks out the door. He walks into the manifold bus, and no joke, comes out less than a minute later with this:

JohnsSalvage193.jpg

We set the broken manifold next to the one he came out with, and it was a perfect match. Dad and I were both shocked. The old guy just smiled and said "All you had to dowas look".

So now that the "chore" was over, Dad and I walked down the hill into the yard to take in the sights. Ready to go? Here is what we came to first. Need a perfect hood for your 57 Chevy?

From John's we decided to head down to San Antonio and hit some yards down there. On the way, we stopped in downtown Seguin to see the World's Largest Pecan!

Really a Fun Day! I ended up getting the 76 Caddy exhaust manifold, the exhaust heat shield for my Roady wagon, and a perfect passenger front door panel speaker/door handle trim piece.

Headed back north to Austin and got home about 6:30. Parked my very dusty Roady wagon, said by to my father, popped the T-tops off the Cutlass and loaded my wife and the kids in the Cutty and went to the Sat evening cruise-in. If you've not had your fill of pics, I'm posting those in the Events section next.

Needless to say that was a LONG day, but a good one!

Re: John's Salvage Co in Sequin TX plus other PICS. Sat Road

That 75or76 cutlass you across with the slanted grills is probably a 95% chance that was a 442 cause i've never seen another mid 70's cutlass with that nose.

Re: John's Salvage Co in Sequin TX plus other PICS. Sat Road

Awesome. I could spend a week there. Just wondering though, why stack 'em up like that? It's one thing if they are going to be crushed, or if they were worthless foreigns, but those cars..... Not to mention, a good storm coming along.....

Re: John's Salvage Co in Sequin TX plus other PICS. Sat Road

I'm surprised that 80 Cutlass still has the rims on it, could probably get those for a good price. I also wonder how that Chevette can hold up that Corvair! Sounds like fun walking around through all those classics.

That yard has been there forever....and most of those cars have been there for years and years as well. The newer stuff is not stacked, so I don't think they do that anymore.

And I could spend a week in there too. 😀

Re: John's Salvage Co in Sequin TX plus other PICS. Sat Road

Did anyone notice the white G-body Graand Prix in John's has the huge factory power moon roof. Not the most common option and it was all still there.

When I was searching for my Cutlass I either wanted that moonroof or the T-tops. Neat stuff.

Re: John's Salvage Co in Sequin TX plus other PICS. Sat Road

damn i need to move to texas... i love just walking around places like that. its awesome that everything isnt falling apart from rust like all the older cars in the yards up north here.

Re: John's Salvage Co in Sequin TX plus other PICS. Sat Road

There are quite a few other yards like this around here. Here's some links if you want to look at some:

Here's John's website. Shows more cars. I didn't get nearly all of them.

http://www.johnssalvagecompany.com/

This is and AWESOME yard in North Texas. It's a long haul from me. Been there twice, but MAN they have some neat stuff!

http://www.ctcautoranch.com/ - Click on Parts Cars near the top of their page and let the drooling begin!
http://www.texpic.net/2009/20090625_ctc_pano_map/ - Virtual Tour!

This yard is just south of Dallas on I-35, right near my in-laws house. They have A TON of classic cars, but their prices are too high. Fun to look but I don't buy much from them.

http://www.oldcarpart.com/home.html

This place is just up the road from me about 30 miles. I have mixed feelings about these folks. They sell cars up front, and have a large salvage yard in the back. They also host numerous swap meets all year.

The mixed feelings come from the fact that their parts prices depend on their mood. I've gotten fair prices sometimes, and stupid prices others. Also, the cars they sell tend to be rough, and they want a lot for them. They do a lot of mail order and Ebay and sell to people in rust-belt states. I guess you have to make a living but I myseld try not to gouge folks.

Anyway, the DO have some rare stuff. Click the link and scroll down to see some of their cars. http://www.gotexasexports.com/
