I'm in the process of getting my 84 GP in order. It is stock. I want to go to the junkyard and pull various parts from other cars to upgrade mine. Other cars I've had, had sites with stickies about what to get and from what year etc... I've done numerous searches and just got confused. So, what should I look for, sway bars, 3.08 gears (can you get the whole axle and swap it?) Anything else who be appreciative.

I guess that kinda depends on what you're trying to accomplish and exactly what you're starting with. GPs do generally have some of the susp. upgrades other g-bodies didnt come with from the factory-so that's good. any G-body parts are interchangeable, other than exterior body panels and qtr windows and GP-specific trim.

Are the sway bars in the GP the ones everyone wants or are there better ones on different Gbodies? Also, I'd like to keep it simple so can I just take an axle from a donor vehicle with the 3.08 gear set up? Are there certain cars/trucks that this is a direct swap for? If so what year and model?

depends on the suspension package your GP had. Option bars are 1 1/4" up front and 7/8" in back. look for cutlasses with the f-41 suspension package (found on the build sheet on the inside of trunk lid), or any monte ss.

I don't know about rear end swaps.

Check any 80's Buick Regals you can find also. If you can see a rear sway bar, it will have the 32mm (1 1/4) front bar as well as the quick ratio, high-effort steering box. If you take the steering box, get the pump also, as the flow valve in the pump is matched to the box. If you find a rear bar, don't forget to grab the spacers that slip inside the lower rear control arms. If I have time later tonite, I'll dig out a shop manual and research the rear axle codes in a separate post. All g-body rears will interchange, but you may have to kiss a bunch of 2.29 and 2.41 frogs to find that rare 3.08 or 3.23.
