It seems like all the old cars are disappearing anymore and the yards went commercial.

Anyone know of any good yards left in northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin or northwestern Indiana? I'm trying to hunt down a 403 or Olds 455 and pre-80 g-bodies. I must be getting old because I remember when I could find this stuff all day....and it was cheap!

The U-pulllits , Pick n' Pulls and Victory never have anything. I'm looking for those yards that have trees growing through the cars and the owners are 70 years old.

what i did was google junk yards in my area and found 2 sofar. also instead of just going to them, call and ask if they have and g bodys. ask if they have 78-87 whatever yer looking for. what ive found is U PULL IT in chicago on north ave. and Victory auto wreckers in bencinville(sp?) by ohare airport. hope this helps.

Yeah, Wilmar would have what you'd want. Im sure youd find a 455, but getting it out isnt easy. Everything is either sunk into the ground to the floorboards or had stuff on top of it. As long as you arnt looking for 81-87 body parts (I took the last rust free drivers door there) or seats its not bad for small stuff. You've got to be paitent too, I stood waiting for the guy that prices stuff for half an hour before he came and I could pay. There was a poor guy from Statefam wanting to know if they could get a fender for a 73 Ventura. I got there at 11, got out at 3, he was still there. 4 hours waiting. Funny part is I stood right next to a ventura for an hour pulling out an aluminum core support.

The best thing that yard is for is getting bumpers, fenders, accesory brackets, stuff like that. But getting an engine out, yikes I dont know. 455's they have, didnt even look and saw 3 C headed 455's laying around. 403's, too im sure.

Unless your real desprate, it isnt worth driving from chicagoland. I just so happen to be lucky to have 3 great older car salvage yards that I know of. 2 of those are within 45 miles of my house, one of those has a bunch of 60's impala SS's, chevelles, 20 or so 4th gen F bodies, 20 3rd gens, 10 first gens, 5 G bodies, few vetes, 10 or so 55-57 chevs, more mustangs than you know what to do with.

Heres a few pics of it.

Call Paul's auto yard in Westville Indiana and you'll come up with some g-body's - although theyll most likely be ones you cant even work with. Come down Route 12 and hang the right turn @ the hood gas station just before indiana state prison in Michigan City IN and come look for g-body cars over here there are SEVERAL cutlasses grand prix gn's and mc's cruising in Michigan City, though consequently the local yards are bone dry on frames and parts so dont even bother looking for those engines around here! They get moved out the back door soon as they come in if you know what Im saying!
