I have a pretty well built smallblock as is till I wiped a lope off the cam but anyways im in a predicament between pulling the old smallblock out and boring and stroking it or just put a roller cam in her. Idk how much power I was putting down I just rough guess about 350hp somewhere around there I really want about 450hp
Right now
Flat tops 2 valve reliefs
Lunati 60103 with full roller rockers
Long tubes with a x pipe flowmaster 40's
Rpm air gap with 750 speed demon
Gm fast burn heads
I'm guessing around 10.5 to 11-1 compession
450hp would be much easier to get with a 383. If the parts in the motor are still good I would clean them up and store them away. Building a 350 now a days is almost a dumb idea when you can do a 383 for roughly the same price. I just built a 350 and really wish I would have went to a 383 in the first place. Whats your budget look like? Why not build a 383 and put a roller in that? With those heads I would bet you can make 450 crank horsepower pretty easy with a 383 and the right hyd roller cam.
I guess it depends on what you're doing with the engine. Will it be a daily driver, race only vehicle, or a street/strip brawler? The 383 option will have a lot more torque which is what you want on the street. Cheap kits can be bought from Eagle and other manufacturers for around $700 already balanced and ready to drop in. Roller cam set-ups can be purchased for about the same price when you figure in the cam, lifters, thrust button, shorter push rods, etc. Of course you're going to need a cam no matter what, then adding the price of a stroker kit also will be more money, but well worth it. I'm guessing your compression ratio is closer to 9.8:1 or 10:1 if your chamber size is still 62cc. If it's going to be a street motor and run on pump gas you'll have to go with a dish piston when doing the 383. Calling cam manufacturers and telling them what you're wanting to do is the best way to get the right cam. Usually a 383 will use a cam one step larger than a 355 and keep the same powerband.
Thanks for your input I just went head and bought a stroker kit it won't be a 383 because the block i have on the stand doesn't need bored out so just keeping the old 4 inch bore. And I think I am going too take the idea of full roller because well more power is more fun 🙂. But I tell you the whole story on how I bought it was kinda funny tho
