lacquer thinner trick

Looks like a neat trick. However the Pontiac manual strictly warns against dying, recoloring, cleaning with harsh chemicals, etc, the seat belts. I know, I know, everybody does it, me too. I used SEM paint on some red Firebird belts to make them black. But as soon as I found black ones I junked the red ones. HPP magazine used RIT fabric dye as well. I'm just saying that they wouldn't warn against it unless the chemicals (laquer thinner! Wowsers!) could possibly compromise the strength of the belts. Wouldn't want to find out the hard way!
