Lighter or darker shade?

If you had no choice but to use touch up paint with a slightly different shade so its noticeable, would you rather a darker or lighter shade?

I think it depends on the color to begin with. Without knowing a reference point, I’d suggest thinking if the car is seen at night or during the day more. If it’s the day, lighter is better IMO. The opposite is true of the car is often seen at night. You could also argue that if the piece with the touch up is in the shadows (e.g. towards the lower half of a door) a darker shade would be less noticeable.
