Does the lightning rod shifter (4 speed - Hurst olds 83/84 style) have a lock out so you don't slam the gear into neutral/reverse? Like the ratchet shifters? Or would a manual/mechanical one need to be fabricated?

I think it would if for no other reason than it's required by law. Now it may not keep it out of neutral, but it is required to lock out reverse.

That's reassuring, at least I'll be saving work or prevent a transmission explosion, one of the two. If it's a nuisance when shifting into OD with adrenaline rush, then a manual stop could do well. Maybe something similar to an old electric switch to flip over the top of the plate and protect from over revving the motor? (this mod is a long way off, just thinking of ideas now)

Like a derivative of this: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... l%26sa%3DG

Only make it half the width, cool looking, and functional.

yes im pretty sure my lightning rods do lockout reverse, although i do recall accidently slamming reverse a few times, i cant remember if i had the button down or not
